A respected messenger, not a rejected figure.
Many Christians are surprised to learn that Jesus (Peace be upon him) is not ignored in Islam, nor spoken of negatively.
In fact, Jesus (Peace be upon him) is mentioned in the Qur’an with deep respect, honor, and love. His story is not erased, but reframed within a clear understanding of God’s oneness.
In the Qur’an, Jesus (Peace be upon him) holds a very high status:
The Qur’an affirms that Jesus (Peace be upon him) performed remarkable miracles, such as healing the blind, curing lepers, and raising the dead.
However, it consistently emphasizes one crucial detail: These miracles were performed by God’s permission, not by independent power. This distinction preserves the miracle while maintaining God’s absolute authority.
Islam teaches that loving and honoring a prophet does not require turning him into God. Respect does not mean worship.
Jesus (Peace be upon him) is presented as a teacher who called people to worship the One who sent him. By keeping worship directed to God alone, Islam protects both God’s uniqueness and the prophet’s true role.
Can honoring Jesus (Peace be upon him) as a mighty messenger bring us closer to the God he worshiped?
